Partnering with the Gospel
Last Sunday, Pastor Mike asked us to consider how we are partnering with the gospel. The RBC vision statement says, “To know Christ and make Him known … ” In Matthew 28:19, Jesus commands us to “go and make disciples of all nations …” That’s a command, not a suggestion, from our Savior to each of us who’ve submitted to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We are to go because we highly value the gospel and have committed to following Him as a disciple. The question is, how are you partnering with the gospel?
For some, “all nations” means missionary work in a foreign country, but for most of us, it’s within the borders of Fairfax or Loudoun Counties. Our mission field is where God has strategically placed us within our families, our neighborhoods, communities and workplaces. How are you fulfilling Jesus’ command to go and make disciples, how are you partnering with the Gospel? Here’s an opportunity.
The RBC Men’s Ministry holds THE SUMMIT as an outreach event four times a year for the purpose of giving RBC men an easily-leveraged opportunity to invite family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. We choose speakers who have a strong relationship with Christ and have demonstrated living it out through all areas of their lives. We select speakers who can speak on a topic that is culturally relevant to what men might most connect with at each quarterly event.
Won’t you consider praying about how God might be leading you to reach one man with the gospel he has placed in your life? Invite him to join you this Monday evening for a BBQ dinner, then to hear about what’s really going on in Washington. There will even be an open Q & A time. Pray for the Lord’s leading, be bold, invite that man, pay for his dinner, register him, come together.
Go and make disciples, make Christ known. Click HERE to register now.
-Alex Marcus for the Men’s Ministry Leadership Team
Event update: Due to a last-minute conflict, our original speaker for tonight’s SUMMIT, congressman Daniel Webster, cannot make the event. Instead, we will be hosting the deputy director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, David Shedd. Click HERE to register now.

When: October21, 2013, Monday 7:30-8:30 PM

Dinner: 6:30PM, RBC Clubhouse by Famous Dave’s BBQ
Registration: www.restonbible.org/summit
Most people know of Jesus, but many do not have a personal relationship with Him, and it is hard for them to even get their head around what that means. Generally, men are expected to be self-reliant and independent, and don’t seek out or admit a need for help when faced with challenges.
These are just a few reasons why it can be so powerful for men to hear the personal testimony of another man, especially a successful leader who is willing to be transparent and share how his relationship with Jesus Christ has impacted his life.
Webster served as the Speaker of the Florida House and Majority Leader in the Senate prior to being elected to the U.S. Congress in 2010. He is known for many things, but Daniel Webster still holds his faith, his family, and his principles as his biggest assets. Webster is married to the former Sandra Jordan of Orlando, and they have six children: David, Brent, Jordan, Elizabeth, John, and Victoria, and seven grandchildren. Webster is active in his church, First Baptist Church of Central Florida.
Come out and join us on Monday, October 21st, to hear about the difference a personal relationship with Jesus has made in the life of a prominent leader in our country and please bring a friend or co-worker.

FAITH & REASONING 101
When: Monday, April 22, 2013, 7:00 PM-8:30 PM
Where: RBC, Room 238
Topic: Topic: “The Legend Theory”: If you’re sharing your faith with non-believers, it’s inevitable that you will run into objections, and one of the most prevalent theories among skeptics is “The Legend Theory”. It says that Jesus was just a good teacher and although there may be wisdom in His teachings, He is not God; He did not die for our sins, and He is not the only way to heaven. You’ve undoubtedly heard some version of this – the Bible is just a bunch of fables and stories full of legendary material that were exaggerated over time…
Are the teachings about Jesus being God and having died for our sins the result of embellishments? Or do we actually have good reasons to believe the Gospel message?
Come out and join us on Monday, April 22nd, as we’ll examine the historical evidence for “The Legend Theory”. RSVP: wgaines@firstphc.com
Upcoming activities are scheduled in May and beyond. So mark your calendars.

So, come out and join other men weekly on Wednesday evenings as we explore how to become an Exemplary Husband. It will be a time of encouragement and our basis for the study will be The Exemplary Husband by Stuart Scott and with reviews like “If I wrote a book on being a godly husband this would be it” (from John MacArthur), there is sure to be something for all men in the study.

Men’s Retreat 2011 Recap
Men, it has been a few weeks now since we were at the 2011 RBC Men’s Retreat. Three weeks is typically about the time it takes to instill a new habit in our lives. Hopefully, you were encouraged to begin to walk closer with the Lord, but maybe you couldn’t attend or maybe life is just back to normal. For any of those circumstances, the Men’s Ministry wanted to provide you with the following resources to equip and encourage you to continue strengthening your walk with the Lord.
As you may remember, our overriding theme was Strength in Numbers – that we are stronger in fellowship with other Christians than we are alone (a 3-cord of strands – Ecclesiastes 4:19-21). We experienced great teaching from Pastor Steve King and great fellowship with other RBC men, all at a great location with amazing scenery.
Steve gave us four challenging keynote messages. Below, we are providing a brief synopsis of each one, as well as links to the audio so you can re-listen as needed. We pray this will serve as a helpful post-retreat reminder of some of the things we learned and experienced there.
SESSION ONE: The Realities of Living by Faith – Pastor Steve taught on how properly setting expectations for our lives on the Lord and his promises will increase our joy. We should filter the world through God’s Word, not vice-versa. We are designed to live by faith and God tests our faith for our good and our growth. Listen to full session audio here. Session Slides are here.
SESSION TWO: Living in the Community of Grace – We are loved by God, and we are to show hospitality (love) to others. Marriage is to be honored and our contentment is valued by God. This sounds simple, but why is it so hard? We drift and too often allow ourselves to be deceived, become dulled, then defiant – which results in being disciplined by God. Listen to full session audio here. Session Slides are here.
SESSION THREE: “Whatever!” – We can experience the ‘whatever’ of relationships or we can experience Jesus in ‘whatever’ circumstances we are in. The most significant relationship other than with God is the one with our spouse. The Lord uses our marriage to refine us. As a husband/father we have the most significant role in the moral direction for our family. Listen to full session audio here. Session Slides are here.
SESSION FOUR: How to get Honey from a Rock – We can experience contentment & joy in the midst of trials because God will never leave or forsake us. Life is a wilderness, and God is our greatest treasure and reward. This world won’t ultimately satisfy us. We must worship God even when we don’t feel like it. Listen to full session audio here. Session Slides are here.
You can view the retreat photos below! (Thanks to Dave Waldrup, Mike Emory and Kim Strickland for the images.)
Mark your calendars now for next year! On October 5 & 6, 2012 we will be hosting Alistair Begg as our speaker. You can listen to him daily (weekdays) on WAVA 105.1 at 8:00 am.
As always, you are welcome to contact me with any questions or comments regarding Men’s Ministry here at RBC.

Starting Point at Fuel
Starting September 20 at FUEL, we will begin a 10-week study called Starting Point. If you know anything about Starting Point, you probably know it is designed for people who have questions about faith as well as those who want to learn about basics of the Bible and Christianity. So why are we going through Starting Point at Fuel? During this time, we will have the opportunity to re-explore the foundational aspects of the Christian faith in a way that is relevant and engaging while also strengthening community among our men. Our desire is that we could continue to be rooted in our walks with Jesus and that going through the Starting Point curriculum would also open up venues for sharing our faith.
