LESSON 3: REMEMBER WHEN?

Why is it that God spends so much time in the Bible telling His children to “remember” Him? I’d like to venture four reasons I believe are grounded in scripture. When we fail to remember God we risk…

  1. Falling into idolatry/trusting ourselves or our possessions (Deut. 8:13-14)
  2. Never growing in trust of/faith in God (Isa. 40:20-21)
  3. Stumbling into sin and suffering the Father’s discipline (Deut. 8:19)
  4. Forfeiting a generation to the enemy (Judges 2:10-11)

So how can we use our minds to remember God? Here are five ways, listed below, that God has ordained for us to remember Him, who He is, and all that He has done. Help your kids use their memory to love God
this week.

BABY QUEST: December Lessons

Baby QUEST is Reston Bible Church’s ministry to the youngest members of our Body.

Each month, we will feature a guide for your family to use with children ages 0-2. The guide includes follow up activities, a craft or sensory activity, recommended reading, a song, and other tips that are uniquely tailored to the development of infants and toddlers.

The guide follows the themes we are teaching in our nursery classes, giving you an opportunity to connect and reinforce the ideas taught at home. Because children this age need repetition, each activity can be done multiple times throughout the month to continue to press it upon your child’s memory as they grow!

This month, we’re focusing on the Christmas Story. As you celebrate the birth of Jesus, you can use many of your regular traditions to point to Christ, even for the youngest members of your family.

Big Idea:
Jesus Came to Be With Us

Scripture Focus:
Luke 2

LESSON 2: TEACH THE CHILDREN WELL

When we think of Daniel we think bravery, good looks, government leader, survivor of the lion’s den, prisoner of war, advisor to kings,  child… What? Where did child come in? Let’s think about it for a moment.

We know from Scripture that Daniel was a youth, probably about 14 years old (think 8th grader), when he was taken from his home in Israel and into captivity in Babylon. Upon his arrival he was offered the best food and wine in the palace, but thought of a plan to keep himself kosher. Already as a young teenager Daniel was knowledgeable about his God and his faith. I’m fairly sure that the King of Babylon didn’t have any Hebrew schools at the palace.

QUEST: Preschool Lesson for December 6

This week is Leader’s Choice during QUEST classes, so enjoy the bonus preschool video above! When we have Leader’s Choice Weeks during QUEST, leaders are able to tailor what their class talks about and does that day based on what the class needs or is interested in. Because of the flexibility and varied lessons/activities done, we do not have the typical take home materials those weeks.

This week’s reading from the Jesus Storybook Bible:
God to the Rescue! p. 84

This week’s Big Idea:
God is our rescuer!

This week’s Key Verse:
Exodus 6:7

QUEST: Preschool Lesson for November 29

This week is Leader’s Choice during QUEST classes, so enjoy the bonus preschool video above! When we have Leader’s Choice Weeks during QUEST, leaders are able to tailor what their class talks about and does that day based on what the class needs or is interested in. Because of the flexibility and varied lessons/activities done, we do not have the typical take home materials those weeks.

If you are worshipping from home and miss our weekly resources during Leader’s Choice, we’d encourage you to celebrate Family Choice Week in your home by finding out what is interesting to your child or find a topic that your family could explore together.

Some ideas:

  • Have your child pick their favorite Bible story and ask them to tell you the story in their own words and teach YOU about it
  • Review some of the previous handouts or videos and talk about the Big Ideas/Key Verses
  • Listen to a new worship song together and ask your child to help create hand motions for it!
  • Have a time of family worship: read from the Bible, a Bible storybook, sing, and have family prayer time
  • Complete a Family QUEST Challenge
  • Do a Family Prayer Walk
  • Download some lessons or coloring sheets from our Leader’s Folder
  • Start your own family prayer cards. See Mr. Tony talk  to QUEST leaders about how he uses prayer cards; you can use them the same way in your family!
